Union of the Crowns

So imagine you have two toy kingdoms, one with red toys and one with blue toys. The red kingdom is ruled by a red king and the blue kingdom is ruled by a blue king. But then, the red king and the blue king decide to get married and become one big family! This means that the red kingdom and the blue kingdom are now united, or joined together, to become one big kingdom with both red and blue toys. This is kind of like what happened in history with the Union of the Crowns. Scotland and England were two separate kingdoms with their own kings, but then the Scottish king James VI became the king of England too! Now, Scotland and England were united and ruled by the same king, just like the red and blue kingdoms. But even though they were united, they still had their own laws and customs, just like how the red toys and blue toys might have different rules for how to play with them.
