ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Unum (number format)

Unum is a fancy way of saying a special type of number that scientists and engineers use called a "floating point number". Basically, it's a number that can be really big or really small, and it's used to help us make really accurate calculations.

Think of it like a ruler. You know how a ruler has different units of measurement like inches or centimeters? Well, unum is kind of like that. It can measure really small things like atoms, or really big things like the distance between planets.

But unlike a ruler, unum can be really flexible. It doesn't just have one unit of measurement. It can change depending on the number you're trying to measure. So if you're measuring something really small, unum will give you a really precise measurement. And if you're measuring something really big, unum will give you a rougher measurement, but still pretty accurate.

So basically, unum is a special way of writing numbers that helps scientists and engineers make really accurate calculations, no matter how big or small the number is.
