ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Urethral glands

Urethral glands are little factories inside our bodies that make a special fluid. This fluid helps us during something called urination, which is when we need to pee.

When we pee, the fluid from our urethral glands mixes with the urine and comes out through a tiny hole in the bottom part of our body called the urethra. It's kind of like a little pipe that lets the pee flow out.

The urethral glands are located near the urethra and they work quietly throughout the day making a special fluid. This fluid is important because it helps to keep the urethra moist and kind of slippery. It also helps to protect the urethra from any germs or bacteria that might want to sneak in and cause problems.

This special fluid also comes in handy when we need to pee. You see, our bladder stores the urine until it gets full, and when we are ready to go pee, our body sends a little message to the urethral glands telling them it's time to do their job. The glands quickly release a bit more of their special fluid, which mixes with the urine and makes it easier to come out smoothly.

So, you can thank your urethral glands for helping you pee properly and keeping you healthy by protecting you from any unwanted germs or bacteria that could cause problems in your body. They are like little superheroes that do their job quietly but play a very important role.
