Ushpizin

Alright kiddo, so let me tell you all about ushpizin! In the Jewish religion, there is a holiday called Sukkot where people make little outdoor “homes” called sukkahs. They’re made of things like wood and cloth and are meant to remind us of the temporary shelters our ancestors lived in when they wandered in the desert.

During Sukkot, people have a tradition of inviting guests into their sukkahs – these guests are called ushpizin. But here’s the thing, the ushpizin aren’t just any guests – they’re actually special guests that people believe are representatives of different Jewish leaders from the past.

Each night of Sukkot, people invite a different ushpizin to their sukkah and they say special prayers to welcome them. These ushpizin are seen as guests of honor and are thought to bring blessings and good luck to those who welcome them.

So, in summary, ushpizin are special guests that are invited to visit during Sukkot and are believed to be representatives of important Jewish leaders from the past. They bring blessings and are considered guests of honor.
