ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

VSAM

VSAM stands for "Virtual Storage Access Method" and it's a way for computers to keep track of lots of information. Think of it like a big library with lots of books. VSAM is like the librarian who keeps track of where all the books are and who has checked them out.

Inside the computer, there's a big area called "virtual storage" where information is stored. VSAM helps keep track of all the different pieces of information and makes sure they can be found easily and quickly.

It's kind of like a filing cabinet with lots of drawers. Each drawer has lots of file folders and each file folder has papers inside. VSAM helps keep track of where each piece of paper is so you can find it easily when you need it.

So when you're using a computer program that needs to look up lots of information quickly, like a bank balance or flight information, the program can use VSAM to find that information quickly and efficiently.
