Valentina Tereshkova was a very special lady from Russia. She was the first woman to ever go into space! She made her first flight in June 1963 and spent almost three days orbiting the Earth. She flew in a capsule called Vostok 6 and she proved that women were just as brave and skilled in space exploration as men. During her flight, she completed 48 orbits around Earth. She also became a hero in her home country and was presented with medals and honors when she came back to Earth. She became a successful politician in her later life and was honored with many awards and medals. She is still remembered today as a pioneer in space exploration.
