Variance functions

Variance functions tell us how spread out a set of numbers is. If a set of numbers has a high variance, then it means that the numbers are spread out a lot. For example, if you have the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, then the variance would be low because the numbers are close together. But if you have the numbers 1, 100, 200, 300, 400, then the variance would be high because the numbers are spread out more. A variance function helps us figure out how spread out a set of numbers is.
