ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Variant (biology)

A variant in biology means a slight difference or change that can occur in living things like plants, animals, or even humans. It's like having a different hairstyle or eye color than someone else. Sometimes these changes can be really small and hardly noticeable, and sometimes they can be more significant and affect the way that living thing looks or behaves. Variants can happen naturally over time as living things evolve and adapt to their environment, or they can happen because of things like mutations, which are changes to the genetic material that make up an organism's DNA. So, in short, a variant refers to a small difference or change in appearance or behavior that can happen naturally or because of genetic changes.
