ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Vector directory number

Alright, so imagine you’re at a big park and you want to go to a specific place, like a playground. You don’t know where it is, so you ask someone for directions. They tell you to follow the signs with a picture of a swing, and that will take you to the playground.

Now imagine you’re calling a big company, like a bank or a hospital, and you need to talk to a specific person or department, like the billing department or the HR department. You don’t know their phone number, so you ask the receptionist for help. They tell you to dial a specific number, called a Vector Directory Number or VDN, and that will connect you to the right department or person.

So basically, a VDN is like a sign with a picture of a swing at a park – it helps you find your way to the right place. Instead of helping you find a playground, it helps you find the right person or department at a big company when you’re making a phone call.
