ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Veneer theory

Veneer Theory is a theory that suggests humans have a thin veneer (very thin layer) of civilization over top of our natural, animal-like tendencies. Basically, this theory suggests that deep-down, humans are similar to animals and don't have much control over our automatic, instinctive reactions. As a result, people often react on impulse or instinct, like animals do, despite what their civilized part might think or say.
