ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Venipuncture

Venipuncture is a procedure that helps health care professionals take a sample of your blood. It's done by inserting a needle into a vein in your arm or hand. The needle is attached to a tube so that the blood can be collected. The needle is then removed and pressure is applied to the area where it was inserted to help stop any bleeding. The collected blood can be used to test for certain diseases and conditions, and to check how well certain organs in your body are working, like your heart, lungs and kidneys.
