Vent pecking is when chickens peck at each other's bottoms, or vent areas. It can happen when the chickens are feeling stressed, bored, or cramped. Sometimes they do it because they are curious and want to explore. However, vent pecking can also be a sign of aggression and can lead to injuries and infections for the chickens. Farmers and chicken keepers need to make sure their chickens are comfortable, have enough space, and that there are things for them to do to prevent vent pecking.
