ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Viral shedding

Well, sometimes our body can become sick because of tiny germs that we cannot see, called viruses. When we get a virus, our body has to fight against it to make us feel better. Sometimes, even after we start feeling better, the virus can still be inside our body and can come out of our body in different ways, like when we sneeze, cough, or go potty. This is called viral shedding.

It's important to be careful when we have a virus that can be spread to other people because they can also get sick. That is why it's important to wash our hands, cover our nose and mouth when we cough or sneeze, and dispose of our used tissues right away. Sometimes, doctors will also tell us to stay away from other people for a little while to make sure that we don't spread the virus to others.
