ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Virtual memory

Virtual memory is like using a filing cabinet to store information. It is like having a much bigger room to store things in. Instead of a small room with limited space, a computer can use virtual memory to store lots of things like documents, pictures, and videos in multiple filing cabinets! With virtual memory, the computer is like a filing cabinet that can store more than it normally would inside of its own walls (RAM). It is like a big filing cabinet that uses the hard drive as extra filing cabinets that are inside the computer room.
