Vocal percussion is when someone uses their mouth and voice to create drum sounds without actually using a drum! It's like playing an imaginary drum kit with just your mouth.
When somebody does vocal percussion, they use different parts of their mouth to make different sounds. For example, they might use the inside of their cheeks to make a snare drum sound or use their lips to create a bass drum sound. They might even use their tongue to make cymbal sounds!
It's kind of like beatboxing, where somebody creates rhythm and beats with their mouth, but vocal percussion is more focused on making drum sounds specifically. Vocal percussionists can be found in a cappella groups or bands, adding rhythm and percussion to the music.
Next time you listen to music, try to see if you can hear any vocal percussion!
