ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Voiced apicoalveolar fricative

Okay kiddo, so you know how you can make different sounds with your mouth? Like saying "ahh" or "mmm"? Well there's a special kind of sound that some people make called a "voiced apicoalveolar fricative".

Basically, this sound starts with your tongue touching the little bumps on the top of your mouth (called your alveolar ridge) and the tip of your tongue is curled back a bit. Then you blow air out of your mouth while keeping your tongue in that position, and it makes a hissing sound.

The "voiced" part means that you use your vocal cords to make the sound, so it's not just air coming out of your mouth. And "apicoalveolar" just means that you're using the tip of your tongue and the alveolar ridge to make the sound.

It might seem tricky at first, but with a little practice you can make this sound too!
