Volcanism on the Moon

The moon is a big rock that we see in the sky at night. It's not alive like us, but it has a lot of interesting things going on, like volcanoes. Volcanoes on the moon are different from the ones on Earth because the moon doesn't have air to breathe or water like we do. So, when the volcanoes on the moon erupt, they don't make smoke or lava like we see on TV. Instead, they make a special kind of rock called "basalt."

When the volcanoes on the moon erupt, they send out a lot of hot gas and rocks. These rocks are melted by the heat and come out of the volcano like a big fountain. When they cool down, they turn into this special basalt rock. This rock is really strong and heavy, so it stays on the moon's surface even when other things might hit it.

Scientists have found lots of places on the moon where these basalt rocks are scattered around, and they think it's because of the volcanoes. They also think that the volcanoes on the moon might have erupted a long time ago and haven't erupted since, because the moon is very quiet now. So even though there are no people currently living on the moon to see its volcanoes, they still play a big role in making the moon the way it is today!
