ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Volute spring

Imagine a slinky, the toy that bounces up and down stairs. A volute spring is kind of like a slinky, but it's made of a flat piece of metal that has been twisted into a spiral shape.

When you twist the spring, it stores energy like a battery. Then, when you let go, the spring unwinds and releases that energy, pushing or pulling on whatever it's attached to.

Volute springs can be used in all sorts of things, like watches, toys, and even vehicle suspension systems. They're a simple yet effective way to store and release energy, kind of like a mini superpower!
