Walls of Jerusalem

Okay kiddo, let's talk about the Walls of Jerusalem. Do you remember when we visited grandma's house and she had a fence around her yard to keep the neighbors' dogs out? Well, Jerusalem was a very important city a long time ago, and its people needed to protect themselves from attackers. So, they built a big wall around the city, kind of like a fence, but much, much taller and stronger.

The wall had big stones held together with a special kind of glue called mortar. It was built so high that even grown-ups would have to crane their necks to look at the top! The wall had many different parts, including gates where people could come in and out of the city. People would stand guard at the gates to make sure only friendly visitors came in and no bad guys snuck in to hurt the city or its people.

The Walls of Jerusalem are still there today, but instead of being used for protection, they are now a historical site for people to visit and learn about the important history of the city. Pretty cool, huh?
