War in Afghanistan (2001–2021)
So, a long time ago in 2001, some bad people called terrorists attacked the United States.
The United States got very angry and decided to go after the terrorists in a faraway country called Afghanistan where they were hiding.
So, the United States went to Afghanistan with some other countries to find the terrorists and stop them from hurting more people.
The people in Afghanistan did not like the terrorists either, but they did not like the outsiders coming into their country. They wanted to be the bosses of their own land.
So, the United States and their friends fought with the terrorists and the people who supported them in Afghanistan.
It was a very long and hard fight. Many people got hurt and many people died.
In 2021, the United States and their friends decided it was time to leave Afghanistan and let the people in Afghanistan be in charge of their own country.
But, sometimes things do not always go as planned, and it is still a little hard for the people in Afghanistan to figure out what to do next.
