Waraji

Waraji are a type of shoes that were worn in Japan a long time ago. They are very simple and made out of straw or other natural materials.

Imagine taking a long, thin piece of straw and weaving it together in a pattern. That's what waraji are made of. They kind of look like flip-flops, but instead of having a rubber sole, they have a flat woven sole made out of straw.

People wore waraji because they were easy to make and didn't require a lot of materials. Plus, they were comfortable to wear in warmer weather because they let your feet breathe.

Nowadays, people in Japan don't really wear waraji anymore. But they are still a symbol of tradition and are sometimes worn during festivals or traditional events.
