Bast shoe

A bast shoe is a type of shoe that is made from plant fibers. Basically, people take the long, skinny parts of plants like flax or hemp and weave them into a shape that looks like a shoe. These shoes can be kind of rough and not super comfortable, but they were really popular a long, long time ago when people didn't have access to fancier shoes. People might wear bast shoes if they were working outside or if they didn't have a lot of money to buy better shoes. Nowadays, you probably won't see many people wearing bast shoes, but they are still made and can be pretty cool to look at!
