Waste Isolation Pilot Plant

The Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is like a really big cupboard in the ground where we put all the radioactive waste. This cupboard is located in New Mexico which is a state in the USA.

Just like how we have a garbage bin at home to put all our waste, nuclear power plants also have waste that needs to be safely stored away because it’s radioactive and can be harmful to people and the environment.

The cupboard is really thick and strong, so that none of the waste can escape and harm anyone. The waste is put in special containers made of thick metal to keep it safe.

To make sure everything’s safe, robots help people put the waste into the cupboard, they’re like those cool remote-control cars that you love to play with!

The Waste Isolation Pilot Plant helps keep our planet safe by safely storing all of the nuclear waste, so that it can’t hurt anyone or anything.
