Water Pasteurization Indicator

Imagine you have a cup of water and you want to make sure it won't make you sick. You can use something called a Water Pasteurization Indicator (WAPI) to help you out!

A WAPI looks like a little plastic tube that has wax inside. When you put it in your water and heat it up, the wax inside melts. If the wax gets hot enough, it means your water is safe to drink!

But why does melting wax mean the water is safe? Well, when water gets really hot, like when you boil it, it can kill germs and bacteria that might be floating around in it. That's called "pasteurization." The wax in the WAPI melts at the same temperature that water needs to be to get pasteurized. So if the wax melts, it means your water got hot enough to be safe.

So there you have it! With a WAPI, you can make sure your water is clean and won't make you sick.
