Watergate

Watergate was a scandal in the 1970s that involved a lot of people. It started when some men broke into the Watergate Hotel (in Washington, DC) and were caught trying to steal secret information. The people who broke into the hotel worked for President Richard Nixon and the people who helped them were paid by President Nixon's reelection campaign. The people involved were trying to get an advantage in the election, but they were caught and people began to investigate the scandal. It eventually uncovered a lot of illegal things the President and his people had been doing, like taking money from foreign countries and lying to the American people. This led to President Nixon resigning from office and being replaced by President Gerald Ford.
