ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Western saloon

A western saloon is a place from a long time ago (we're talking about cowboys and horses) where people would go to have fun and drink things like beer and whiskey. It's kind of like a party place, but back in the olden days.

The inside of a western saloon was usually not very fancy - no big chandeliers or fancy decorations like you might see in a fancy modern restaurant. Instead, there were usually wooden tables and chairs, and maybe even a big wooden bar. The bar is where people would go to order drinks and chat with the bartender.

People who went to western saloons were usually cowboys or other people who worked outside in the wild west, like farmers or traders. But sometimes there were also bad guys or outlaws who would go to saloons to cause trouble.

In the western movies we sometimes see on TV, there might be a scene where someone walks into a saloon and everything stops. That's because everyone who's in the saloon stops what they're doing to see who just walked in. It was kind of like a big pause button on a movie - it makes you think, "Uh oh, something important is about to happen!"

So to wrap it up, a western saloon is a place where people from a long time ago would go to have fun, drink, and hang out, usually in a simple wooden building with tables and a bar.
