ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Westminster Foundation for Democracy

The Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) is a place where grown-ups work together to make sure people in other countries are able to have fair and open elections and participate in democracy, which means having a say in how things are run by your leaders.

Imagine you and your friends want to play a game but one person keeps making all the rules and not listening to what anyone else suggests. That's not fair, is it? When grown-ups run a country, they also need to listen to what everyone thinks and count all the votes equally. Sometimes, in other countries, people don't get to participate in the game of democracy fairly. That's where the WFD comes in.

The WFD works with grown-ups in other countries to teach them about democracy and how to make sure everyone has a fair chance to make decisions together. This can be done by helping people understand the rules of voting, encouraging people to get involved in politics, and making sure that the different groups of people are given equal opportunities to share their opinions.

It might be hard to imagine right now, but when you get bigger you will have a chance to participate in democracy and help make your community a better place. The WFD is helping people in other countries have the same chance.
