Wharenui

A wharenui is an important building in some Māori communities. It is a big meeting house where people gather for important occasions and discuss important issues. The building is usually in the shape of a cross, with four posts to represent the four corners of the world. Inside, the walls and ceiling are decorated with intricate carvings. The carvings tell stories from Māori history. The wharenui is a very special part of Māori culture.
