ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

White Revolution (India)

Alright kiddo, today I'm going to tell you about something called the "white revolution" in India.

First, let me explain what revolution means. Have you ever heard of a big change happening in something? Like when a caterpillar turns into a butterfly, that's a kind of revolution. In the same way, when a big change happens in a way people do things, we call it a revolution.

Now, about the white revolution. It's called this because it was about a type of food that comes from cows - milk, which is white in color. In the 1960s, India was facing a big problem - there was not enough milk to go around. People who lived in cities were especially having a hard time finding milk because most of the cows lived in villages far away.

A man named Dr. Verghese Kurien came up with an idea to solve this problem. He wanted to help farmers in villages produce more milk and make it easier for people in cities to get milk too. He started an organization called the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). Their goal was to make sure there was enough milk for everyone in India.

Dr. Kurien knew that farmers needed help to take care of their cows and sell their milk. So, he came up with a plan to provide them with loans, training, and equipment. By doing this, he helped farmers in India increase their milk production a lot!

Then, the NDDB started a program called "Operation Flood." This program helped connect farmers with people who needed milk. They also helped farmers become more efficient in how they made and sold milk. By doing this, they were able to make sure that everyone in India had enough milk to drink.

The white revolution was a big success! Thanks to the work of Dr. Kurien and the NDDB, India became the world's largest milk producer. This meant that people in cities had more access to milk, and farmers were able to make more money. It also helped improve the quality of life for millions of people in India.

So, that's the story of the white revolution, kiddo. It's all about how one man and his team helped make sure there was enough milk for everyone in India.
