ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Why Johnny Can't Read

Hey there! Sometimes, when kids are trying to read, they can have a hard time. There are a few reasons why Johnny might be struggling.

First, it could be because he hasn't had enough practice yet. Reading is like riding a bike – the more you practice, the better you get.

Second, it could be because Johnny has trouble with some of the sounds that letters make. For example, the letter "c" can make different sounds – like "cat" or "cent." That can be tricky to remember!

Another reason Johnny might be having trouble is because he has trouble remembering what he just read. That's called "reading comprehension." Sometimes when we read a story we forget what happened at the beginning when we get to the end of the story.

Lastly, Johnny might have a learning disorder that makes it tough for him to read. But don't worry, if Johnny is having a hard time there are lots of people who can help him. Remember, practice makes perfect!
