William Thomson, 1st Baron Kelvin, was a very important scientist. He was born in Scotland in 1824 and studied math at the University of Cambridge in England. He became a professor of Natural Philosophy at the University of Glasgow in 1846 and made lots of discoveries over his life. He discovered that temperatures can be measured using a scale that is now known as the Kelvin scale, which measures temperatures in degrees. He also made important contributions to electricity, sound, and magnetism, and came up with an equation to explain how electricity and magnetism work together. He was awarded the title of Baron Kelvin in recognition of his work and was given a special medal for his life's work in 1906.
