A windsock is a special kind of flag that helps us see which direction the wind is blowing. It looks like a long, skinny tube with a round mouth that catches the wind. The inside of the tube is usually made of fabric or plastic and is usually brightly colored, like red and white stripes.
When the wind blows, it fills up the sock and makes it stick out in the direction that the wind is blowing. This is important for people like pilots, because they need to know where the wind is coming from so they can take off or land safely.
Sometimes, people also put windsocks in their yards just for fun! They can be really pretty to look at when they're blowing in the wind, and they can even help us to predict the weather. If the wind is blowing really hard, it might mean that a storm is coming!
