ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Wing of ilium

So you know how our body has a skeleton that holds it together, right? Well, one part of the skeleton is called the pelvis - this is the bony part of our hips that helps us walk and run.

Now, inside the pelvis, there are many bones that fit together to make it strong and sturdy. One of these bones is called the ilium. The ilium is shaped like a wing - think of a bird's wing, but upside down! It's flat and curved, and it sits at the top of your pelvis.

The ilium is very important because it helps support your back and your belly. It also helps connect your legs to your body so that you can move around. When you run or walk, your legs move in the hip joint, which is where the ilium and other bones meet.

So basically, the ilium is like a big, strong wing that helps hold your body up and lets you move around.
