Winterbourne (stream)

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen a stream? It's like a little river that flows through the land. Well, a winterbourne stream is a special type of stream that only flows during the winter season.

You see, in the summer the sun shines bright and it's hot outside, so most of the water in the soil and the rocks evaporates, and the land becomes very dry. But when winter comes, it gets colder and the rain starts to fall. The rain seeps into the soil and when it reaches the rocks below, it starts to create a small stream.

This stream is called a winterbourne because it only flows during the winter. When the warmer weather comes back, the waters of the stream dry up again and disappear.

But while it's flowing, the winterbourne stream can be very important for animals and plants. Animals can drink from it, and plants use the water to grow. So even though the winterbourne only lasts for a short time, it still plays an important role in the ecosystem.
