Wow (recording)

Wow is a sound effect or distortion that can occur when recording sound, especially music. It sounds like someone saying "woooooow" in a long drawn out way. This happens when the speed of the recording changes unexpectedly or by accident. Imagine you are walking and suddenly you trip and fall forward – that's like what happens to a recording when wow occurs.

When recording music, it's important to keep the speed of the recording consistent so that it sounds good. But sometimes, things happen that cause the speed to change. For example, if the recording machine's motor is old or not working properly, it might cause the recording speed to fluctuate. If the recording tape is not wound correctly, it can also cause the speed to change.

Wow can be fixed during the editing process by adjusting the speed of the recording in certain spots to make it consistent. Sometimes, it's even used on purpose to create a unique sound in a song. So, wow can be an annoyance or it can be something cool – it all depends on how it's used!
