Wringing (gauge blocks)

Wringing gauge blocks is like playing with Legos, but only with special blocks that are used to measure things. When you have two Lego pieces that fit together really well, they stick together and you can lift them up without them falling apart. This is kinda like what happens when you try to stick two gauge blocks together.

Gauge blocks are made really flat and smooth so that they can be used to measure things really precisely. When you put two gauge blocks together, the surfaces stick together really well because they are so flat and smooth. So, if you try to pull them apart, they will stick together like those Legos we talked about earlier.

Wringing is when you use this sticking together of the gauge blocks to make sure that they are lined up exactly right for measuring something. For example, if you need to measure a piece of metal that is one inch long, you can put a one-inch and a two-inch gauge block together to make a stack that is exactly three inches long. Then, you can use that stack to measure the length of the metal because you know that the two blocks are sticking together really well and won't move around.

So, wringing gauge blocks is like making sure that your Legos fit together really well, but instead of making a cool toy, you're using it to measure things really accurately.
