ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Write strategy

Okay kiddo, let me tell you about writing strategy in a way even you can understand.

When we want to write something, like a story or an essay or a report, we need a plan, just like how you need a plan to build a castle out of blocks. This plan is called a writing strategy.

First, we need to choose a topic. This is the idea we want to write about. It could be anything from your favorite animal to a book you read to a science experiment you did in class.

Once we have a topic, we need to think about what we want to say about it. We can write down some words or ideas related to the topic in a brainstorming list.

Then, we need to decide what kind of writing we are doing. Is it a story with characters and events? Or an essay with facts and opinions? Or a report with information about a topic?

After that, we need to organize our ideas into an outline, like how you would make an outline of a map for your treasure-hunting adventure. This helps us know what order to write our ideas in and keeps our writing neat and tidy.

Now it's time to start writing! We put our ideas down on paper or on the computer. We use words and sentences to explain our ideas to our reader, just like how we use words to explain to our friends what we did during recess.

When we are finished writing, we read it over and make changes to make sure it makes sense and is well-written. We might also have someone else read it and give us suggestions, like how you might show your parent or teacher your drawing and ask if they like it.

So that's a writing strategy. It's just a plan to help us write something that makes sense and is easy to understand. Next time you write something, try making a plan first and see how it helps you!
