X-ray spectroscopy

X-ray spectroscopy helps scientists study the elements that make up different materials. X-rays are a kind of light that is invisible to us and can pass through many materials like our skin and thin sheets of metal. When the X-rays pass through an object, they interact with the elements inside, and each element produces a different type of X-ray that has a different energy or “color.” Scientists use a special machine called a spectrometer to measure the different types of X-rays and figure out which elements are in the object. This helps them study the materials in more detail and learn more about them.
