Yanaki and Milton Manaki
Do you know what a camera is? It is a tool that lets us take pictures of things. Yanaki and Milton Manaki were two brothers who lived a very long time ago, before you or I were born. They lived in a country called Macedonia. They loved taking pictures of everything around them and they used a very special type of camera that was different from the ones we use today.
Their camera was called a glass plate camera. It was like a box with a big glass window on one side. They would put a special type of film inside the box and then take pictures of things they saw through the glass window. They would then develop the film in a special room called a darkroom. In their darkroom, they would use special chemicals to make the pictures appear on the film.
Yanaki and Milton Manaki took pictures of all sorts of things. They took pictures of their family, friends, and people they met. They also took pictures of animals, buildings, and nature. They even took pictures of their town, called Bitola, where they lived. Their pictures were very important because they showed us what life was like a long time ago.
Nowadays, we have cameras that are much easier to use than the glass plate camera. We can take pictures with our phones or digital cameras and we can see the pictures right away.
