Yara-ma-yha-who is a mythical creature from Australian Aboriginal folklore. It is said to be a small, red-skinned being that lives in fig trees and preys on humans.
The Yara-ma-yha-who has a special power in its fingers and toes - when it catches a person, it sucks out their blood and then swallows them whole. After a little while, it gets sleepy and then vomits up the person it ate before going to take a nap.
Some legends say that if you are bitten by a Yara-ma-yha-who, you'll turn into one yourself after a few days. And supposedly, the only way to protect yourself from the Yara-ma-yha-who is to paint your body with charcoal, because it hates the smell and will be afraid of you if you're all black.
Though we cannot be sure if these stories are true or not, they serve as a way for people to explain the world around them and to teach important lessons about how to stay safe.
