Yongning Temple Stele

Imagine you go on a field trip to a very old temple. At this temple, you see a big stone with writing carved into it. This is called a stele.

The Yongning Temple Stele is a very old stele, almost 1,300 years old! It weighs about as much as your teacher and it's as tall as a giraffe.

The writing on the stele tells a story - a story about a monk named Huaiyuan who was practicing Buddhism (a kind of religion) at that temple. The story goes that he became very good at what he was doing and eventually became a famous teacher.

The stele is important because it tells us about the history of Buddhism in China and how people practiced it a long time ago. It's like a big history book written on a stone. People still go see the stele today to learn about the story and the history of the temple.
