ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Youth detention center

Okay kiddo, so a youth detention center is like a big house where kids who break the law go to live until they can go back to their families or go to court.

But, this is not like an ordinary house where you can watch TV or play games all day. This is a special place where the kids have to follow rules very carefully because they have done something wrong. They can’t just go out whenever they want or eat whatever they want.

They have to go to school, do chores, and attend therapy to help them figure out why they did the things they did and how they can behave better in the future.

There are also grown-ups called guards who work at the youth detention center to make sure the kids are safe and not hurting themselves or each other. Guards keep an eye on the kids all the time and make sure they are doing what they should be doing.

It might be scary for some kids to live in a youth detention center, but it is important that they learn from their mistakes and try to change for the better.
