Sometimes, a long time ago, some people were really mean to other people just because they were Jewish. They did really bad things like not letting them go to school, not letting them have jobs or even taking away their homes. This happened in a lot of different countries, and even the people who were supposed to keep everyone safe didn't do anything to help the Jewish people.
It was really sad and scary for the Jewish people and some of them tried to leave and go to other countries where they would be safe, but a lot of countries wouldn't let them in because they thought they were different or just didn't want them there.
Even though some people knew what was happening and knew that the Jewish people needed help, they didn't do anything about it. This is called the abandonment of the Jews, because they were left alone and not helped when they really needed it.
