2006 Southeast Asian haze

In 2006, there was a big problem in Southeast Asia where there was a lot of smoke and pollution in the air. This made it hard for people to breathe and see, and it was called the "haze".

The problem started because some people were burning things like forests and fields to clear the land for farming and development. This created a lot of smoke that went up into the air and stayed there because there wasn't enough wind to blow it away.

The smoke contained tiny particles that were bad for people's health. These particles could get into people's lungs and make it hard for them to breathe. They could also make people sick and cause problems like coughing and sore throats.

The haze was so bad that some schools had to close because it was too dangerous for kids to be outside. People had to wear masks to help protect their lungs when they went outside.

The governments of the countries affected worked together to try to solve the problem. They asked people to stop burning things and put laws in place to make it illegal to burn forests or fields without permission. They also tried to create more awareness about the dangers of the haze and how people could help prevent it.

It took a while for the haze to go away, but eventually the wind started blowing and the smoke cleared up. People were relieved that they could breathe easier and see clearly again.
