ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Story within a story

Okay, imagine you’re telling a story about a princess who gets lost in a big forest. Now, inside that story about the princess, another character comes along and tells the princess a story about a magical frog who can talk. And then, inside that story about the magic frog, the frog tells its own story about its adventures in a far-off land.

Basically, a story within a story is when a character in a story tells another story as part of the larger story. It's like playing with dolls where you put one doll inside another and then another, each one having its own story. It can make the main story more interesting and add more depth to the characters and the world they live in. So, it's like having a toy that has a toy inside of it that has another toy inside of it. Each toy has its own special story to tell.
