ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

hemolysis

Hemolysis is when your red blood cells break down. Your red blood cells carry oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body. When they break down, your body can't get enough oxygen, and you can get sick. It can happen because of something your body does naturally, like illness, or because of something that happens outside your body, like putting too much stress on the cells.
