2015 Japanese military legislation

2015 was an important year for Japan's military because that's when the Japanese Government passed a law allowing their military, also known as the Self Defense Force (SDF), to fight overseas for the first time since World War II. This law, known as the Security Legislation, lets the SDF send troops, ships, or planes to other countries to help protect Japanese people, or to help out in international peacekeeping operations. It was a very big change in the way Japan's military works and was met with some opposition. In simple terms, the 2015 Security Legislation allowed Japan's military to help out in other countries, something they weren't allowed to before.
