ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

24-cell

A 24-cell is a shape that has 24 sides, also called a hyperdiamond or icositetrachoron. It is made up of 24 3-dimensional shapes called tetrahedrons that are all connected to each other in a special way.

Imagine holding onto 4 straws and putting their ends together to make a little pyramid. This is what one of the tetrahedrons in a 24-cell looks like. Now imagine putting 24 of these little pyramids together by connecting their sides to each other. You’ll end up with a 24-cell!

The 24-cell has some special properties. It is a 4-dimensional shape (instead of the 3-dimensional shapes we are used to seeing) and it is what is called a “regular polytope” which means all of its faces are identical and all of its edges are the same length.

Even though it may be hard to imagine what a 4-dimensional shape looks like, it is a very important concept in math and can help people understand how our world works in more complex ways.
