ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

2nd meridian west

Okay kiddo, so the world is a big round ball called the Earth, and like the lines on your hand, there are imaginary lines on the Earth too. We call these lines meridians, and they help us figure out where things are on the planet.

Now, the 2nd meridian west is a line that starts at the very top of the Earth, up by the North Pole, and goes all the way down to the bottom, by the South Pole. It's called the "2nd meridian" because it's the second line over from the one in the middle, which is called the Prime Meridian.

So, what's important about this 2nd meridian west line? Well, if you're standing on or near this line, you would be traveling across a lot of countries and land masses. In Europe, it would pass through Ireland, and parts of Portugal. Then it would go through the Atlantic Ocean, and cross the entire continent of South America, going through Brazil, Bolivia, and Chile, among others. Finally, it would end up in Antarctica, where it would be very cold and snowy, but also very close to the South Pole.

So, if you ever need to find out where you are on Earth, you can use these meridians to help you! You can think of them like the lines on a map, and they tell you where you are in relation to other places. Cool, huh?
