A/C (alternating current) power is the type of electricity that powers our homes and businesses. It is different from D/C (direct current) power because it moves in two directions - forward and backward. A/C power is used in most buildings because it is more efficient and can travel over longer distances without losing power. It is also easier to control and regulate with switches and outlets. When the electricity enters your home from the power company, it goes first to the electric meter and then to a circuit breaker panel and utility outlets. From those outlets, it can be connected to appliances, lights, and other electrical devices.
